Christine has a diverse background and has worked in a variety of different settings, including schools and community settings, not-for-profit and other organisations and out of home care (DHS placed young persons and MacKillop Family Services). Christine has experience providing counselling to adults and children of various backgrounds and ages, including clients referred for couples counselling and individuals referred through TAC or WorkCover.
Christine is passionate about supporting individuals experiencing adversity through illness, injury, disability and adjustment to life changes. This interest has led to Christine to volunteering extensively to facilitate peer support groups for pain, anxiety and depression.
Christine has proficiency in all the core areas of individual and couple therapy. Including anxiety, depression, personality or interpersonal difficulties and/or mood disorders, obsessive-compulsive disorder, self-esteem and identity concerns, grief and loss, health-related challenges including acute or chronic pain, illness, injury, and disability.
Christine is experienced in a number of different psychological approaches, including Cognitive Behaviour Therapy, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, Solution-Focused Therapy, and Mindfulness.
Christine is a devoted and compassionate clinician who aims to provide a safe, non-judgmental and respectful space, which considers an individual’s background, experience and preferences regarding therapeutic approach. Christine’s flexibility and collaborative approach with clients help them to find practical and evidence-based solutions that result in successful outcomes from short or longer-term therapy.
Maddie aims to work collaboratively with her clients and their support system. She prefers to take a non-expert approach using the client’s life experience and knowledge about themselves to aid in the treatment she delivers. Maddie uses therapies including CBT, Mindfulness, DBT and has recently been trained in EMDR.
Maddie prefers to work with children (over 8 years old), teenagers and early adults. She has experience in working with clients who have anxiety disorders including generalised anxiety and social anxiety. As well as a range of social, emotional, and behavioural issues.
Over the past 16 years, Shelley’s training and career roles have been diverse, having worked with both children and adults in a range of clinical and educational settings including schools, university, hospital and private practice. In the past, Shelley has also been a managing psychologist and honorary lecturer at Monash University’s Krongold Centre, and has gained the unique opportunity of working beyond the practice of psychology, but also deepened her knowledge of psychological theory, research and intervention through training psychology interns.
Shelley has extensive experience treating a range of presenting issues some examples including generalised anxiety and phobias, social anxiety, self-esteem issues, panic disorder, OCD, anger management challenges, selective mutism, depression, postnatal depression, parenting challenges, autism spectrum disorders, interpersonal challenges, ADHD, behavioural problems and learning disorders. In addition to supporting clients with managing personal life challenges, Shelley believes in adopting a proactive approach to mental health and resilience, and also works with clients in developing high emotional intelligence and living to one’s potential.
The Avenue Place is a result of Shelley’s years of experience and her desire to set up a small private practice that reflects her values as a practitioner.
